Personal Development is Personal
Hello
I’m delivering a webinar with the PIE community tomorrow, the 19th of March, about personal development for bidding and work winning people. You are very welcome to join me. Details here
It might be a bit of a wake up call for some. In terms of us in work winning and bidding people - I do find there is quite a lot of victim culture. Lots of people have said to me “oh, you know, the company hasn't done any development for us. They've not trained us all on this sort of stuff etc etc”
I can tell you now that the most successful people in business, generally, but certainly when it comes to winning work, writing bids, being a bid manager, being a capture person - they didn't sit around waiting for somebody to train them.
Nobody's coming to save you. No one's coming to do it for you. No one's going to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams or get that promotion. You have to go and take it yourself. You have to go and do that development yourself.
You can drive the business to pay for memberships and development and certifications and all that kind of stuff. But at the end of the day, you need to figure out for yourself how you are going to maximize the value that you deliver for your employer, or perhaps one day for your own company. That's how people get Maserati’s, that's how people get equity in businesses. Successful people focus on learning how to create the maximum value that they can. So figure out what's valuable in your space and for your employer and go and become excellent at whatever that is.
But no one's coming to save you. Got to do it yourself.
In terms of your approach, my friend Darrell Woodwood put it far better than me on Linkedin last week here:
